AWAKE WHEN IT MATTERS

Night is a time for rest, yet this passage reveals two kinds of responses. Peter was sleeping between soldiers, bound with chains, while the church was awake, praying earnestly. This was not careless sleep. It was the rest of a man who had entrusted his life fully to God. He was not running this time, not resisting, not panicking. He was ready, whether for deliverance or death.
Meanwhile, the church understood their responsibility. They gathered and prayed. Not casually, but consistently. Prayer must not be occasional; it must be intentional; a lifeline. It is easy to be occupied with many things, yet neglect prayer. But here, we see believers who stayed awake spiritually while others slept physically. Then came divine intervention. An angel appeared. Chains fell off. Instructions followed, and Peter obeyed step by step. At first, he thought it was a vision. But soon he realized it was real. Miracles still happen. God still works. What God did required no human strategy.
This teaches us a simple truth: prayers are answered, but we must be ready to recognize and receive what God has done.
Yet when Peter arrived at the house, those praying struggled to believe. The answer stood at the door, but doubt delayed their response. Peter testified, then moved on. Testimonies must be shared, not hidden. They strengthen faith and remind us that God is still active. But the story also carries a warning. The soldiers on duty lost their lives. Sleeping or failing in responsibility had consequences. Herod, in anger, executed them. The world we live in is not gentle.
So we must ask: are we awake where it matters? In prayer, in responsibility, in spiritual sensitivity? Do we recognize God’s work when it comes? In these times, we must not sleep through moments that require prayer. Stay awake. Stay sensitive. Stay ready.
