The Incomparable Christ

RENEW REFRESH REFOCUS

CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things …           — Hebrews 1:2.

An introduction letter briefly highlights your background, accomplishments, and goals. An introduction letter is also not a letter of recommendation. A letter of recommendation is written by someone who knows you well, like a former employer, teacher, or mentor, to vouch for your abilities and accomplishments. It often includes specific examples of your work and contributions, as well as why the person is recommending you for a certain position or opportunity.

The fact is, that is exactly what we find here in Hebrews 1; a letter of introduction and recommendation of Jesus Christ, giving us His “credentials,” and why He should be so important to us. Jesus is “a better hope” as Hebrews 7:19 tells us; “For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did, by which we draw nigh unto God”. Yes! Jesus is better than the old priests and sacrifices; He’s better than the angels. The whole book is about the superiority of Christ. And this passage may be the best one in the book; it’s one of my personal favorites. It lays out the “credentials” of Jesus so clearly and powerfully; and shows us how He is “The Incomparable Christ.”

This truth brings an important fact that God works and wants to speak to us. Jesus' position as divine, His role as Creator, and His work in reconciling God and man is the climactic revelation of God in Christ, surpassing every way that God spoke and worked before Christ came. Halleluiah!

Who is Jesus to you?

PRAYER

Lord, thank you for the truth laid out in your Word. Help us to keep our eyes of faith focused on Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
