& PRAYER FOR THE DAY
… a
woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she
poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. … Matthew 26:6-13.
Jesus called the action of this woman “a
beautiful thing,” but the disciples called it “a waste.” He defended her and
declared that wherever the gospel is preached, her deed would be remembered.
What made her action so significant? She didn’t speak. She didn’t ask for
attention. She simply gave—that which she highly valued, boldly and silently.
Her testimony wasn’t told through words but through sacrifice. And Jesus
immortalized it.
Too
often, we judge what others do based on appearances. We get irritated by things
we don’t understand. But what if the things we label as “wasteful” are the very
acts God calls worship? The woman’s offering was costly, and she gave it not to
the poor or the disciples, but directly to Jesus. It was an act of pure
devotion. The disciples thought the perfume should’ve been sold and given to
the needy—a noble idea, but misapplied in that moment. Jesus wasn’t minimizing
care for the poor; He was emphasizing the priority and order of fellowship with
God and man.
This story reminds us that not all testimonies are spoken. Some are lived quietly, in the background—unseen by men, but deeply honored by God. While others saw waste, Jesus saw worth. He didn’t just commend her; He promised her act would be told alongside the gospel itself. How many times have we judged a person’s actions without understanding their heart? How often have we withheld from God because we feared what others would think? Let us learn from this woman: to serve God boldly, even when misunderstood; to pour out our worship, even when others disapprove; and to live lives that, though untold in the spotlight, echo eternally in God’s memory.
Let
your devotion be sincere—even if it’s silent. In the eyes of Jesus, no act done
in love for Him is ever wasted.
PRAYER
Lord, help me honor You sincerely and boldly, in word and deed,
knowing nothing done in love is ever wasted. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
