Who Is This?

Who Is This?

They were terrified and asked …, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Mark 4:35-41

The disciples had seen Jesus heal the sick, cast out demons, and teach with authority. But when the storm hit and Jesus calmed it with a word, they were stunned—not just by what He did, but by what it revealed: “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Fear had driven them to cry out, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are perishing?” But awe led them to a deeper, more important question: Who is this Man?

It’s easy to trust God when everything is calm. But when storms rise, and Jesus seems to be “asleep,” our hearts can quickly shift to fear and frustration. We begin to question His care, His power—even His presence. Yet, Jesus was never absent. He was in the boat all along. And when they woke Him, He didn’t explain Himself—He simply spoke peace into chaos. The winds ceased, the waves stilled, and the sea obeyed. Jesus then turned to His disciples, not with condemnation, but with a question of His own: “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”

Storms don’t always mean we’ve made a wrong turn. Sometimes they are the very places where faith grows and Christ is more clearly revealed. And sometimes, the real miracle is not what Jesus calms around us, but what He changes within us. Today, don’t just ask God to fix your situation—ask Him to deepen your understanding of who He truly is.

Because the more clearly you see Jesus, the more confidently you’ll weather any storm.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, help me trust You in every storm. Deepen my faith and reveal more of who You truly are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
